History of the 495th R/C Squadron, Inc.
The 495th R/C Squadron, Inc. is a non-profit club chartered
by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) for the promotion of radio controlled (R/C)
model aircraft. The club is based in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and is comprised
of approximately 160 members, coming from all walks of life, and is devoted
to the design, construction and flying of R/C model airplanes and
helicopters. Founded in 1972, the Club's name is derived from the first
flying site used by the new club; the roadbed of the not-yet-completed
Interstate 495 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Today, the Club maintains
two R/C model flying fields, located in
Groton, and Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and offers free
training to anyone that would like to learn to
fly R/C model aircraft. Membership in the 495th
R/C Squadron, Inc.
is open to all current AMA members. The Club holds monthly
meetings, as well as fun-fly events, barbeques

Inc. maintains flying fields, and offers instruction in the art of flying
radio-controlled model airplanes, gliders and helicopters.
Life Members of the 495th RC Squadron
The success of any club is totally dependent on the efforts
made by individual members to enhance the club for the membership. In
the 30 year history of the 495th R/C Squadron, the club has benefited from
the efforts of many fine individuals who have given generously of their time
and energy. In those 30 years, the club has given special recognition to a
number of individuals in the form of life
memberships, for exemplary service to the 495th R/C Squadron.
